Description:

Lauren Beach, PhD, JD, Yufen (Jennie) Chen, PhD, and Laura Rusie, ScM, discussed results from their Third Coast CFAR pilot awards.  Dr. Chen presented “Cerebral Small Vessel Disease in Early HIV Infection.” Dr. Beach and Rusie presented “CVD Analyses Designed to Elucidate Consequences of Comorbidities, Environment, SDOH, and HIV at Howard Brown Health (CADENCES HIV – HBH).”

About the Presenters:

Lauren Beach, PhD, JD, (they/them), is an assistant professor of medical social sciences and preventive medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, director of the ReACH SGM Laboratory, and director of the ADVOCATE SGM Health Program at ISGMH. They investigate the epidemiology of aging and chronic physical health conditions among diverse sexual and gender minority populations and people with HIV.

Yufen (Jennie) Chen, PhD (she/her), is a research associate professor of radiology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Her research focuses on studying cerebral vascular health with quantitative MRI techniques such as arterial spin labeling, cerebral vascular reactivity, and dynamic susceptibility contrast imaging.

Laura Rusie, ScM (she/her), is serving as a consultant with Supriya D. Mehta, MHS, PhD, at RUSH University. They are currently collaborating on two projects: 1) Bacterial vaginosis testing and the microbiome of transmasculine patients at Howard Brown Health, and 2) A survey of clients at Steamworks Baths Chicago about knowledge, perceptions, and intentions around DoxyPEP. Previously, Rusie was the director of data, evaluation, and epidemiology at Howard Brown Health for eight years.
