On Dec. 1, 2023, the Robert J. Havey, MD Institute for Global Health at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine will host a global health day event including a World AIDS Day panel, a poster session, and a keynote address from Carlos del Rio, MD, entitled “Lessons from the HIV epidemic applicable to future pandemics.” ​Global Health Day will take place from 12 p.m. – 5 p.m. at Robert H. Lurie Medical Research Center.

Dr. del Rio is a Distinguished Professor of Medicine and interim dean of Emory University School of Medicine. He is also professor of global health and epidemiology at the Rollins School of Public Health. Dr. del Rio is co-director of the Emory Center for AIDS Research and co-PI of the Emory Vaccine and Treatment Evaluation Unit.

World AIDS Day is held annually on December 1st as a reminder of the global struggle to end HIV-related stigma, an opportunity to honor those who have been lost, and a commitment to working toward ending the HIV epidemic.
