Scenes from Angels in America

Angels in America, the seminal play about AIDS in America, has a lot to tell us about how to persevere through a plague. On October 8, amfAR will stream a free one-hour virtual reimagining of scenes from this historic play that speak to our current cultural moment. The broadcast will include an introduction by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Tony Kushner, who will contextualize COVID-19 in relation to the early days of the AIDS epidemic.

The incredible cast features Glenn Close, Brian Tyree Henry, Patti LuPone, Laura Linney, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Paul Dano, Andrew Rannells, Vella Lovell, Larry Owens, Linda Emond, Nikki James, S. Epatha Merkerson, Lois Smith, Brandon Uranowitz and Jeremy O. Harris. With special appearances by Alan Cumming, Jake Gyllenhaal and Whoopi Goldberg.

This event has bee designed by a team of talented visual, film, and theater artists led by director Ellie Heyman. It’s unlike any virtual theater you’ve seen. And it’s free! However, all donations will benefit the critical research being done through amfAR’s Fund to Fight COVID-19.
